According to Peel Police, a cyclist was injured after a collision with a car at the intersection of Burnhamthorpe Road and Dixie Road in Applewood, Mississauga on Tuesday night, around 9:07 p.m. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the incident, closing west-bound traffic for about an hour during the investigation, and while the cyclist was transported to hospital, Peel Police have since confirmed that their injuries are not serious.

This intersection, located near the Burnhamthorpe Library, has long been a concern for local residents. Drivers are frequently seen turning without yielding to pedestrians and cyclists, creating dangerous conditions for those trying to cross safely.

Many locals have voiced their frustration with the area’s safety risks, especially given the co-located Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre, which includes EarlyON programming.

While Peel Police have not shared full details on how the collision occurred, the incident renews calls for improved safety measures at the busy intersection. Additional enforcement would be particularly welcome.

Thankfully, the cyclist involved is expected to recover. However, for those who regularly pass through Burnhamthorpe and Dixie, this latest incident serves as a stark reminder to stay vigilant—and for drivers, to slow down and pay attention.
