Power outages in Applewood after today’s rainstorm
Heavy rain and strong winds knocked out power across the neighbourhood this morning

Applewood, Mississauga residents woke up to a wet morning as heavy rain and gusty winds swept through the area, causing widespread power outages in the neighbourhood. The storm knocked down branches, disrupted electrical lines, and left parts of the neighbourhood in the dark. Some streets also experienced localized flooding, adding to the chaos.
If you’re still without power, check Alectra Utilities’ Outage Map for real-time updates and estimated restoration times. Reports indicate that crews have restored service to most Alectra customers and are actively working to restore service to the remainder.
Flooding has been another concern, with standing water making some roads difficult to navigate. If you’re out driving, be cautious—large puddles can disguise bigger issues, and wet roads increase the risk of hydroplaning. If you spot significant flooding, you can report it to the city’s 311 service.
As repairs continue, it’s a good idea to keep devices charged, avoid opening the fridge and freezer too often and, if the power outages reoccur or last into the night, use flashlights instead of candles to reduce fire risks. If your home has flooded, avoid using electrical appliances in affected areas until it’s safe.
If you experienced damage from the storm or need emergency assistance, resources are available through the City of Mississauga’s website. Stay safe, Applewood, and let’s hope for clearer skies ahead!
